Presentation Guidelines

As you know, your presentation to the class constitutes 20% of your total grade.

Your presentation must:

• Be about some theory, principle, case, controversy, or set of ideas relevant in some way to environmental ethics, theoretical ethics, or--in special cases--some other philosophical topic. It may or may not be about your term paper topic. That's up to you.
• Be accompanied by a handout containing your name, the title of your presentation, and at least some of the following things: quotations, principles, arguments, statistics, or other relevant information.
• Be five to fifteen minutes long (not including any time dedicated to class discussion).
• Be presented in a professional manner.
• Take place prior to the final examination. You are responsible for securing a time slot for your presentation. Aside from examination dates, I'm willing to allow a presentation or two to take place at just about any time.

Finally, if you'd like, you can use your presentation to work out positions related to your term paper. Identify a moral controversy in environmental ethics. Sketch out some arguments and positions relevant to the controversy (and related to your sources). Then run your preliminary arguments and positions by the class. In doing something like this, you can get your presentation-related requirements out of the way and do some work on your term paper at the same time.
