Cameras

In 1989 my friend Enrique gave me his Nikon 4004s AF SLR. The autofocus didn't work that great but it took good pictures.

In 1995 I purchased a Nikon N90s which was a solid workhorse for the next several years. It was slightly heavy for my geology field work so I eventually sold it on ebay.

In 2002 or so I purchased a Nikon N80 which I still use.

Other cameras that I have used include the tiny Olympus XA-2 for taking pictures while rock climbing, and a Canon Powershot A95 I have been using since 2005.

Lenses

Nikon 24mm f/2.8
Nikon 60mm f/2.8 macro
Nikon 35-70mm f/3.3-4.5
Nikon 70-210mm f/4-5.6

I never use all of these on the same trip. The 24mm is essential. The 35-70mm is a good all-purpose lens. The 60mm macro is incredible quality but bulky and heavy. For wildlife and some climbing photos I'll use the 70-210mm zoom. You can see the same area taken with

the 70mm

and the 210mm .

Film

Virtually every picture on this site (at least until 2005) is a color slide scanned with a Nikon CoolScan IV slide scanner. My favorite and most-used slide film is Fuji Velvia (50), but I have used a variety of other Fuji slide films from 100-200 speed.
