March 2008 -- off-campus community service colunteers

The following members did the offcampus community service event for the big event on the 15th of this month. They subscribed for the Big Event conducted by ASNMSU and they were told to go to Gospel Resque Mission at 9:30 am. Gospel Resque Mission provides food and shelter to the needy and homeless people. the organization also provides clothing to those people once a month. The clothes are donated by people who want to help the needy. The store they worked for has all these clothes. The job is to clean the front glasses, vacuum the store, clean all the shelves, arrange all the stuff in order. We did this for 4 hours, till 1:30 pm and we came to the campus then.

The full names of the participants are:

Suresh Kumar K
Sriram Narayanan
Phanidhar Kukatla

We thank these members who contribute their time and work to support the club.

October, 2008 -- Badminton Intramurals

Your NMSU Badminton Club is organizing a Badminton Intramural Tournament this Fall Semester. All Students, Faculty and Staff at New Mexico State University can participate in the Intramurals. This is a one day event to be held on Saturday the 18th of October in the Activity Center starting at 9:00 am in the morning. All members of the club are highly encouraged to participate in the Tournament.

This is a good opportunity for us to represent Badminton at NMSU. We are organizing Singles and Doubles Championships. There are no separate Men's and Women's events in the tournament as we do not have enough women to organize a separate Womens Championship. Players and teams may be any combination of men and women. Please send an email to suresh@nmsu.edu asking him to add you in the Singles or Doubles (mention partner's name) or both. If you are willing to participate in the Doubles hurry up! and find your partner. Please send your team information to Suresh before the 10th of October. Once the participants are finalized we will make a Draw and let you know about who you are going to play against. Let's bring this habit of having Badminton in Intramurals back. You can see earlier Intramurals Badminton tournament activity at the old club website from years ago: http://web.nmsu.edu/~badminto/old/index.html. We encourage you all to participate in Intramurals. It is going to be a lot of fun!!!

April 17, 2008 -- Report national Intercollegiate Badminton Association tournament

Dear all,

Here is the report I have from Suresh about the NMSU team's experiences at the national Intercollegiate Badminton Tournament. The team of 8 played singles and doubles matches against 3 other university teams, and won one of the three. Congratulations!

It sounds like they had a great experience and a fun time. It seems like Suresh thinks the lessons they have returned with are:

1. We should perhaps switch to the new world scoring system (in which every rally gives a point, game to 21), because they found it difficult to switch to that at the tournament. Please discuss that with other playees here.

2. Players who wish to compete nationally should practice lots more singles.

3. Perhaps we should use some feather birds, especially for singles.

4. Many of the other teams have institutional coaching.

Happy smashing,
