Wedding

We were married on May 26, 2007 under the Tower of Dreams clock-tower (shown below) in front of the Engineering Technology building at NMSU. To view our official wedding page, please click here: Brian & Jewelie's Wedding Webpage. We will post a few engagement photos (taken by Jewelie's cousin, Sarah), and wedding photos on that page as soon as we can get them uploaded.

Engaged!

Travelling with my family during the beginning of Summer 2006, Jewelie and I got engaged! We flew to Europe for a three-week grand tour (celebrating my graduation from NMSU, my parents' 50th birthdays, my brother's 21st birthday, and Jewelie's upcoming Master's degree graduation in December) of nine countries, starting in Germany (where we practically discovered each other, as mentioned above). We visited some of the towns that my family and I had seen back in 1992, showing Jewelie our favorite spots, then went down into Austria to Vienna. Next up was Italy, seeing beautiful Venice and Rome, then taking the train up to Geneva, Switzerland. We drove into France, staying in romantic Paris for two nights, and saw the major sights in one day. On June 7 in Paris, I proposed to my sweetie in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower, presenting her a sparkling triple-heart ring. She gladly accepted, and we planned for a May 26, 2007 wedding. After Paris, we went through Luxembourg and Belgium, then took the Chunnel to London. My parents showed us around all of their favorites (lived in London for three months while in college back in the 70s), and then flew home tired, but happy with all that we had seen and the time we had spent together. I will post pictures of our trip to this page soon.

History - Our Love Story

Meeting Jewelie at LCHS, and travelling with her to Germany in the 1998 GAPP program gave me the opportunity to get to know this vibrant and alluring girl. Unfortunately, I didn't really try to pursue a relationship then. After graduating in 2000, we lost contact with each other: she went to Abilene Christian University (ACU) in Abilene, Texas, and I stayed home to attend New Mexico State University (NMSU).

Feeling a bit nostalgic, I started Googling my old high school friends and came across Jewelie's ACU e-mail. On a chance, I sent her a message, hoping that she was still there. Fortunately, she still checked that inbox, even though she had since graduated. She was attending the University of Oklahoma (OU), working on her Master's degree in Public Health, but still e-mailed her ACU friends.

We started chatting through e-mail, then IM, and finally on our cell phones. I took her and her cousin Sarah Walker up in our hot air balloon Chimera during Thanksgiving 2004, having a great flight over our hometown. Unfortunately, she had to go back to Oklahome to resume her schooling, so we continued to talk online and on the phone, building our emotional relationship. Jewelie's Spring Break 2005 gave her the chance to come home. So, we planned our first date to include as much as possible in the short time she was back home.

First Date

Having the honor of escorting this beautiful young woman on our first date March 17, 2005 was all mine. We went to dinner, then she got to see where I worked, learned about and saw the 2005 NMSU concrete canoe that I helped build, and she got the chance to try out a Segway Human Transporter that the civil engineering department owns. After that, she got to see my house, a tour she didn't get when she came over for ballooning. We then took my truck out behind A-Mountain, and watched a movie on my laptop, enjoying holding hands and staying warm together under blankets in the bed of my F-150, looking up at the bright stars overhead. We had such a lovely evening, finally able to be together after months of online and phone conversations.

Moved Home

In July 2005, we decided that we couldn't live apart any longer. So, my mom, Jewelie's mom, and I drove my truck to Oklahoma City. We helped Jewelie move home, getting a Uhaul trailer to bring all of her furniture and stuff to her mom's house. It's been difficult balancing our families, work and school schedules, but we are able to find lots of quality time to spend together. Our relationship has really deepened.

It turns out that the Public Health program here at NMSU is the same as the one Jewelie was in at University of Oklahoma. She graduated in December 2006 with her master's degreen in Public Health.

Our Future

I hope to spend many, many years of quality time with my sweetie, enjoying our lives together!

Here's to many more years with you, the gem of my heart -- Jewelie!
