CAMP (College Assistance Migrant Program)

What is CAMP at NMSU?

New Mexico State University's College Assistance Migrant Program (NMSU CAMP) is a federally-funded program to help migrant or seasonal farm worker students attend college. Our program's goal is to ensure each CAMP student graduates from NMSU with a bachelor's degree. CAMP offers the first line of support for CAMP students to succeed during their first year at NMSU. CAMP also strives to maintain communication with former CAMP students to guarantee that they receive the support needed in order to graduate from NMSU

Student Responsibilities:

  • Maintain enrollment as a full-time student at NMSU, complete designated course work at a level acceptable by NMSU and maintain at least a 2.5 GPA

  • Meet with CAMP staff on a monthly basis for individualized Academic Advising

  • Attend and participate in CAMP workshops/meetings for students

  • Attend tutoring sessions, when required

  • Complete and submit all necessary CAMP forms on time

  • Enroll and successfully complete University 150, “Freshman Year Experience” class

Who is eligible?

To be eligible to participate in CAMP you must:

  • Be accepted to NMSU through NMSU’s Office of Admissions (the office will waive admissions fees for CAMP students)

  • Have a high school diploma or GED

  • Be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident

AND meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Prospective students or their parents must have been employed at least 75 days during the past 24 months in seasonal agricultural employment
Or

  • Prospective students may also be eligible if they participated in a Migrant Education Program while in school
Or
  • Participated or currently eligible to participate in a Department of Labor Employment Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Farm Worker program
