PERIPATOS

Welcome to the slightly sheltered walkway of Dr. Kenneth L. Hacker, communication scientist and admirer of Aristotle, William James, and others who promote empiricism, reject dualism for anything other than theology, and strive to find ways of making human life more humane as well as more productive.

The Greeks used the peripatos ("peripatetic" in English) to signify learning while walking in a place that is sheltered. So here is a place to find some discussion about human behavior, communication, the Internet, and human development. My goal is to provide arguments, sources, and linkages that make new ideas more salient and ready for scrutiny. The walk involves dialectic and seeks discovery of good questions and interesting propositions above all else.

What makes this a sheltered walk is that opposing views are brought to light as I choose to accept one over the other. One is not destroyed in favor of the other, but rather placed aside as the other gains more utility. This follows the idea in science that the best theories are the ones that are most useful.
