I have a very understanding wife and enjoy old trucks. I have a fleet of old trucks. Some run -- Some don't -- Some will. Part of the enjoyment of old trucks is the restoration and seemingly endless search for parts. E-bay is a great help as are web pages devoted to the particular brand of truck you may be working on. For example there is a web site called the stovebolt page that is frequented by owners of old six cylinder chevy trucks. A good place to ask questions and buy and sell parts.
