Unpaved and Paved Road Emissions

Road emissions using TRAKER
-
We are using the Testing Re-entrained Aerosol Kinetic Emissions from Roads (TRAKER)
van to monitor PM10 emissions from various unpaved roads as way to improve
emission inventories. Particulate Matter emission potential, GPS
coordinates, vehicle speed and acceleration, and various other performance
parameters are recorded continuously with a high temporal resolution. We measure
emissions potential for a variety of driving speeds, road types, road usage and
over various seasons.
-
The latest use of TRAKER was in a study carried out in the Paso del Norte area
to measure real-time emissions of PM10 from unpaved roads. The region is located
along the US-Mexico border and engulfs three major urban settings: the city of
El Paso, Texas, Las Cruces, New Mexico, and Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.
