Creating a User Friendly Library With Signage:

SIGN CHECKLIST

IDENTIFICATION

  1. Where does the problem exist?
  2. What is the nature of the problem?

PLANNING

  1. Who will supervise the project?
  2. What are the goals and objectives?
  3. Is there a time frame for completion?

EVALUATION

  1. What does the literature say?
  2. Will visits to other facilities be helpful?
  3. What method(s) will be used to evaluate current signage?
  4. What types of signs are currently in the library and what are their
    • purpose?
    • size?
    • message?
    • typeface?
    • color?
    • format?
    • location?
    • installation method?
  5. Will users be surveyed? If so, by what method?
  6. What funding sources are available?
  7. Are there any local experts to assist the library?
  8. Who is qualified to fabricate the signs?

DETERMINATION

  1. What new signs are needed?
  2. What are the specifications for each sign with regard to purpose, message, color, size, location, typeface, format and installation method?
  3. Does the project need to be completed in stages?
  4. Who will be contacted for bids?
  5. What is the final sum needed to complete the project?

TESTING

  1. What form will the "test signs" take?
  2. How long will the testing last?
  3. What changes need to be made?

INSTALLATION

  1. Who has the authority to accept or reject finished products?

DOCUMENTATION

  1. Does the sign manual contain the new signs' specifications and reordering information?
