On Ethics
on the WEB: Creating your website
There are a couple
of things that you probably want to know with regards to creating your
website. Here are some ground rules for creating your own website and
general "netiquette".
Plagiarism
Though
the internet is a place where a lot of things can very easily be copied
and used, there are a couple of ground rules to observe with regards to
ethical behavior on the web. Just as you wouldn't want someone to steal
your stuff and take credit for it, so you should behave ethically when
dealing with the following things:
Pictures
Just because it's on the Internet, that doesn't mean that you can use
it for your own purposes. Whenever you use a picture, make sure to track
down the person who created it, and ask them if you can use it for your
website. Don't just save the image and presume that you have a right to
use it. Make sure that you have the permission of the author(s) to use
the picture or graphic for your website. Send an email to the author and
secure their permission before using the picture.
Website Design
Similarly, for this assignment I am interested in your unique design for
a website. So stealing any website design that you've found on the internet
will count as plagiarism as well. Make sure to come talk to me if you
have any questions about this. I will assume that everybody understands
that they are to hand in their own created design. I am much more interested
in how you represent the things you've found in your research through
your website. Besides, you will learn a lot more in creating your own
website. Please come talk to me or email me if you have any questions
or problems when creating your website.
Text
This should be obvious: in your website use text that you or your group
have written for this specific project, and properly use APA (American
Psychological Assocation) citation formatting for other sources.
