HKN Members

Members of HKN are in top standing with the University. In order to join, members must be either in their junior or senior year. Juniors must be in the top 25% and seniors must be in the top 30%.

Letters are sent to eligible candidates at the beginning of each semester by the ECE department head. The student body has no knowledge of who recieves a letter, but encourages all who do to join. As such, after the chapter president is notified that the letter has been sent out, he will hold a meeting which all potential HKN members are invited to attend. During the meeting, the requirements for joining HKN will be discussed along with the benefits of joining.

Candidates who decide to join then become pledges for the rest of the semester. Pledges must meet the following requirements:

  • Completion of signature book
  • Wear resistor until Smoker
  • Attend Smoker and Banquet
  • Attend minimum of 2/3 of the meetings
  • Tutor minimum of 4 hours
  • Complete 4 hours of community service
  • Attend 2 social events
  • Write pledge letter stating why you should be initiated into HKN (please make it humorous)
  • Pay $60 one time life-time membership fee

For now, this is all of the pledge requirements. The $60 fee is for your certificate, subscribtion to the The Bridge Magazine, and the senior banquet fee.
