Checklist
Documents:
- Carry all your important documents well-arranged in one folder.
- Make 3 copies of all the documents. Leave 1 copy at home in India and carry 2 copies with you.
- Carry the originals (especially PASSPORT, I-20 LETTER etc.) ON YOUR PERSON (or in your cabin baggage) during travel.
- Passport (with stamped visa).
- I-20 letter (signed by you).
- Correspondence regarding admission to university.
- Letter of financial aid (if any).
- Graduation diploma (if coming for grad school).
- Transcripts/Marksheets of previously attended schools.
- Any other bona-fide certificates.

Things to be Left at Home:
- List of addresses/phone numbers at which info about you can be obtained (GISA Contacts / Emergency contacts)
- One copy of all your important documents.
- A copy of all relevant parts of Medical History files.
- Arrange to collect/redirect mail from your room/hostel .
- Arrange to apply/collect/mail your transcripts (about 20 in number preferable).
- Your tailoring measurements.
- A few blank signed papers - so that your parents can be authorized to look after anything on your behalf .
Things to be done in advance before departure:
- Learn typing.
- Learn driving.
- Learn to cook.
- Make your passport valid for 6 months more than your stay indicated in your I-20.
- Make outstation purchases (sweater, cassettes, etc).
- Have a complete medical checkup done.
- Get prescriptions & medicines for all common ailments (the technical name of the medicine along with Indian/US brand name).
- Get your eye-sight checked - get a new prescription. Buy at least one extra pair of glasses, lenses.
