Welcome to La Ruta Maya- A Travelogue of Our Journey through the Mayan World

On May 24th, 2007, 16 travelers, one guide, and one driver set out to explore Central America and the world of the Maya. We saw ancient Mayan sites at Copán, Tikal, Yaxhá, and Caracol. We also visited with contemporary Mayans at a school in the Guatemalan highlands, shopped at the local market day in Santiago Atitlán, and spent time at the home of indigenous weavers in San Antonio Palopo. Our trip took us through the bustling urban center of San Salvador, to the rural town of Copán Ruinas in northern Honduras, the cool highlands of Guatemala's Antigua and Lago de Atitlán areas, the steamy lowlands of the Petén, the mountain pine forests of Belize, and the sparkling Caribbean waters of Ambergris Caye.

We invite you to come along as we recount some of the highlights.
