This is my personal commentary aimed at provoking a response from you the
reader, on the importance of recycling. In no way does my commentery
reflect the views of New Mexico State University or the Recycling Department
of Las Cruces New Mexico. It is strictly my own personal opinion. Some of
you may agree with me and some will not, and that's O.K with me. I
welcome your response to my web page on recycling and to my commentary
because if I can get you to read it, then I have you thinking about
recycling in one form or another. Even if you just read the first paragraph
that's the bottomline. It is your decision if you choose to read on.

For centuries astronomers have been looking toward the heavens for other
signs of life outside of our own planet. So how does this affect us today
on our own planet earth? In reality it doesn't affect us if you look at
from an astronomical perspective. However, in a conservationist perspective
it does effect us.
As the only planet capable of sustaining any form of life in the entire
universe, it would be wise of us to start taking care of what we have.
The Earth is like a big spaceship with its own life support system. The
"Earthship" is capable of producing its own air, water, and food
resourses to maintain life forever if we wished it so. However, this
decision is entirely up to us to make.

As human beings we take to many things for granted which is characteristic of a higher thinking life form. Our air is polluted and is becoming more unbreatheable each day. The water we drink is fouled with raw sewage, industrial waste, and household cleaning fluids. The food we eat is so full of preservatives, it will help preserves us long after we are dead.
We callously abuse the land by strip mining the minerals and over harvesting our forests to build subsivisions on potentially dangerous landfill sites. We try to manipulate mother nature by destroyng her wildlife. Thus, creating other problems for ourselves. When we upset the balance in one part of the life cycle, it can upset the whole biological scheme of nature altogether.
Just because we have the ability to reason, rationalize, and create different languages to communicate, it doesn't mean we are any smarter than any other life forms on Earth. We are a species that uses only one tenth of our total brain capacity and thats not saying very much for us. I know that I am circumlocuting to my main point which is recycling. However, in order to address the issue of recycling I am compelled to set up the forum for which I am about to speak on by giving you, the reader, something to think about as you read on.
We are given many opportunities to do good everyday and recycling is one of those opportunities. With recycling we are given a second chance to save a dying planet from centuries worth of abuse. The word recycle means "a fraction of a product that is recycle." This means, we can recycle many products over and over without using up any more raw materials than necessary. With recycling we can clean-up our biosphere for future generations to come so they may learn from our past mistakes.
Recycling should be as natural as getting up in the mornings and using the bathroom. That simple. You don't have to be rocket scientist to be able to recycle. Recycling is something that the whole community should enjoy doing together because we are contributing to the overall welfare of our planet. If this is not motivation enough for you, try looking at it from a monetary point of view. There's gold in them thar recyclables and landfills if the right person with an acute business mind and who happens to have the midas touch can make it work. Right now technology is being developed to turn everything that away throw away into something that is reusable and profitable. Thats the American way. Thats the bottom line of recycling. Will write more later. HA! HA! HA!
