My general research interest is in social cognition, particularly attribution, attitudes and the self concept.  More specifically, I am interested in affect as an underlying process for attribution and as a determinant of attitudes and behavior.  Also, I am interested in the how self-cognitions are organized.   Additionally, I am interested in philosophical issues pertaining to science and more specifically to psychology. Some of this research examines the philosophical arguments of Aristotle and Kant regarding what people believe, and includes testing these arguments empirically.

Grant Affiliation

Beginning in fall 2004, I was appointed to be the Activity Coordinator for Research Assistants for the Navy Research Lab by Douglas Gillan (Psychology Department Head).  This funded project was designed to identify the known literature and gaps in research on the influences of extreme environments on cognitive processes.  As activity coordinator, I was responsible for maintaining and organizing which areas of literature each research assistant would investigate.  Additionally, I was responsible for examining the effects of extreme environments on situational awareness, workload and social psychological measures of stress.  As part of the project, I was selected to travel to the Marine Mountain Warfare Training Center in Bridgeport, California and the U.S. Army Research Center in Natick, Massachusetts to interview American and British military personnel.
