Biographical Information
Scott Fister returns to
New Mexico State after a six-year absence from the track & field
program. Fister is the primary coach for the field events and is the
assistant strength and conditioning professional for the sport.
Most recently, Fister was
the founder and head coach of the Las Cruces SunDragons Track Club.
At the start of the club in 2005, there were only nine athletes in
the program, but two years later the number soared to 41 members.
Under Fister’s direction, the SunDragons have sent nine athletes
to the junior Olympics.
Throughout the years, Fister
has been a volunteer assistant coach at multiple High Schools around
the country, including Kentucky, Alabama and New Mexico. Fister coached
more than 60 athletes to state berths in throwing and pole-vaulting
events. The majority of his athletes currently hold 80 percent of
the school records at their respective HS.
Prior to that, Fister was
an assistant coach at Jacksonville State (2001-02), New Mexico State
(1999-00) and Louisville (1996-98). At these schools, Fister was in
charge of the development of the throwers and pole-vaulters, relays
and oversaw the strength and conditioning workouts, along with the
daily program operations. He has coached a total of 14 all-conference
selections and numerous record holders.
Fister received a bachelor’s
degree from Louisville in exercise science and sports medicine in
the summer of 1999. He was also a scholarship member on the track
and field team.
