Most recently, Fister was the founder and head coach of the Las Cruces SunDragons Track Club. At the start of the club in 2005, there were only nine athletes in the program, but two years later the number soared to 41 members. Under Fister’s direction, the SunDragons have sent nine athletes to the junior Olympics.

Fister coached more than 60 athletes to state berths in throwing and pole-vaulting events. The majority of his athletes currently hold 80 percent of the school records at their respective HS.

Prior to that, Fister was an assistant coach at Jacksonville State (2001-02), New Mexico State (1999-00) and Louisville (1996-98). At these schools, Fister was in charge of the development of the throwers and pole-vaulters, relays and oversaw the strength and conditioning workouts, along with the daily program operations. He has coached a total of 14 all-conference selections and numerous record holders.

Fister received a bachelor’s degree from Louisville in exercise science and sports medicine in the summer of 1999. He was also a scholarship member on the track and field team.
