Christmas Party - Fall 2008

The Iota Chapter at New Mexico State University began in the Fall of 1993 with five young women, Karen Lopez, Monica Ortiz, Leticia Granillo, Lisa Ramirez, Victoria Gutierrez. These young ladies saw a need to make a change that would allow the women at New Mexico State University to be involved and aware of community and university activities, a change that would allow them to grow as individuals, and bring them closer in love, faith and friendship.

Our charters encountered many obstacles on the road to establishment, but their dream was realized on April 16, 1994, when the Iota Chapter of Kappa Delta Chi was initiated, with their Big Sis Chapter, the Gamma Chapter from University of Texas at El Paso, proudly looking on. The path long traveled had finally come to an end, but a new path lay ahead, not only for the five charter members, but for all who were and who would become a part of the Iota Chapter.

Since then, our membership has increased greatly and includes women from many distinctive backgrounds, who range in classification from newly arrived freshman to fifth-year seniors. This medley of prominent women makes our sisterhood a remarkable experience.

The Ladies of Kappa Delta Chi, Iota Chapter, both past and present, owe much gratitude to those individuals who helped us overcome those obstacles encountered during the first few years. Chicano Programs and the Gentlemen of Omega Delta Phi, Kappa Chapter, gave great support during the effort to establish a chapter, lifting spirits and encouraging every move and they continue to do so today.
