Michael Bursum
Frontier Interdiciplinary Experience (FIX) Program Coordinator
Mr. Bursum works with a dynamic research team of students and faculty in the Department of Government at New Mexico State University and with Kansas State University’s Food Safety and Security program. The team is involved in a number of research projects that deal with border security, migration, international trade, and food/bio-security issues. Mr. Bursum supports these efforts generally but is specifically tasked with assisting the Frontier program, an interdisciplinary program for the historical studies of border security, food security, and trade policy (http://frontier.k-state.edu). In particular, Mr. Bursum helps administer the new Frontier Interdisciplinary eXperience (FIX) student award program. These student awards are supported by the National Center for Food Protection and Defense (NCFPD), a Department of Homeland Security Center of Excellence, based at the University of Minnesota and involving a consortium of universities including Kansas State and NMSU.
