Day eight:  We left Waikoloa Village to explore the east side of the big island.  Our first stop was Akaka Falls State Park.  Kandy trail-blazed towards the falls.

We walked the trail and finally came to the 442 ft. falls.

Of course, this area gets more rain and the vegetation attests to that fact.

Mikela and Rebeca strike a nice pose.

Mikela teaches us to stop often and look out.  We did not dance, but we did stop and look.

What a view!

The girls are ready to continue this beautiful drive.  The vegetation formed tunnels for us to drive through.

The Ginger Inn seemed like a nice place to stay in Hilo.  We were set up for outdoor cooking by the host.  Guess what we had?

Seared Áhi (using our new sushi dishes from Hakalau), shrimp, and steak.

The Captain and Tennile (sp?).

A moment in the lanai before leaving to see the Kilauea lava flows.

Mikela is looking at the lava.  This film speed is too slow to capture the event.

Using a flash, a close-up turns out.  You can even see the red lava in the cracks.

A new flow breaks out of the blackened flow.

Mikela is balancing a block on her head.  It was actually the sign on the highway that is now covered with lava.
