Day
One:
We arrived late Tuesday evening at the Kona Airport. Aunt Kathy and Uncle Jim were there with Leis. We would call Waikoloa Village our home for the next two weeks. Our beautiful condo was situated on the last hole by the clubhouse with a westward view. This is where the sun would set for us every evening. What a treat that was.

One can see the ocean in this photo in the background. The town of Kona is about twenty-five miles from here. We often sat in the Lenai at the end of our busy days and drink Piña Coladas.

Wild Turkeys greeted us early almost every morning! They seem to be getting a bit out of control, but it was very interesting and we often tried gobbling back…after the Piña Coladas, of course.

More turkeys! They just made themselves right at home…or is that Ray, Keller…?

During the first day, Aunt Kathy took us on a tour of the area surrounding Waikoloa Village. This area of Big Island reminded us of home in the southwest—arid, warm, lava, mesquite trees, but with one big exception—OCEAN…

…and Bougainvillaeas of every color that lined the highways. To limit the amount of light pollution, island planners have used sodium lights. This makes driving interesting at night yet the observatories on top of the volcano and the rest of us can observe the night skies more clearly.

After a short tour of the area, we had Ono for lunch at Huggo's on the water. We saw them throwing steaks from the night before out on the rocks and then the Moray Eels crept up to eat them.

As we left the restaurant, we got our first view of the Gecko that lives on the island...and in everyone's homes.

We went to the airport and picked up Keller and continued our tour to the Hapuna beach. We stayed for a short while and would return on the next day for a full day there.

See how happy the kids are?

Our first dinner was hosted at the Wilson's condo. We cooked steaks by the pool, but first we had to see our first Hawaiian sunset...(to the west Kandy).

These sunsets will get better...because the camera is new...not my fault!

Cozy condo...

"Anyone for Ahi?' Not really, that will come another day. Aunt Kathy wanted her picture taken too.
