Hollandia, Dutch New Guinea, was occupied by the Japanese in 1942 in the general collapse of Allied forces at the start of the war. Its airfields were destroyed as a viable unit by the Army Air Corps in early April 44 and was taken by the Allies in early May. McArthur made Hollandia his headquarters before the Philippines Invasions.
