Chapter 1 Classroom Discipline : The Problem and the Solution
Questions and Activities
1: In pairs or small groups, discuss the 20 questions presented in the Entry Point section. See if you can arrive at group consensus concerning answers to the questions.
2: Think through the advice from INTASC, the Praxis Series, and Charlotte Danielson. Incorporate into your thinking the suggestions related to professional, ethical, and legal aspects of teaching.
3: Refer to the Five Principles for building a personal system of discipline. In a notebook or journal, copy the outline headings, leaving a few bland pages following each of the five principles. Then review this chapter and enter in your notebook information you feel applies to each of the principles. By repeating this activity at the end of every chapter, you will accumulate a wealth of ideas and techniques to use in organizing your own personal system of discipline.
