| Chapter 12 : Discipline Through Raising Student Responsibility Unique Activity : Writing a Letter to Parents/Families |
| Suppose you have decided to adopt Marvin Marshall's Discipline through Raising Responsibility for use with your students. With a small team, collaboratively write a letter describing the discipline system to parents and/or families of students at a selected grade level. Marshall suggests a letter in this chapter. However, think about which components you would emphasize with the selected age level. How will you convey the message so that families understand the system, as well as your rationale for using it? Post the letter in an electronic discussion board or blog for colleagues to critique and discuss. Does the system seem appropriate for students in all K-12 grades?
This task can be collaboratively written as a wiki by going to Google docs and spreadsheets at http://www.google.com/google-d-s/tour1.html. (A "wiki" is a type of website that allows visitors to easily add, remove and otherwise edit and change some available content, sometimes without the need for registration on the Site. The ease of interaction and operation makes a wiki an effective tool for collaborative authoring . See definition at Wikipedia ). The Google service is free but asks for a registration and requires a Gmail account. Gmail accounts are also free, but require an invitation from someone who has a Gmail account. |
