Application Procedures


In order to apply to the MA Program in Spanish, prospective students must complete two separate application procedures


Part I

All students need to first apply to the Graduate School.  Graduate School applications consist of:

  • A completed Application for Admission Form
  • Official copies of transcripts for all post-secondary coursework
  • Payment of Application Fee ($15 for Domestic Students/ $35 for International Students)

Part II

The second part of the application for admission to the Master's Program in Spanish must be submitted to the

This application must include the following items:

  • an introductory letter addressed to the attention of the Director of Graduate studies that includes specific statements that clearly indicate: 
  • the semester for which you are applying to initiate your studies 
  • two prospective areas of interest and 
  • whether or not you wish to be considered for a Graduate Assistantship.
  • a curriculum vitae (or résumé)                                                                                    top of page

  • a photocopy of your application to the Graduate school

  • copies of official transcripts of all prior college-level course work and their translation into English if they appear in any other language.

  • official confirmation that you have completed (or will complete) your undergraduate degree prior to enrollment in the Graduate Program.  This may include copies of any diplomas received and/or a letter from a school official attesting to your completing all university requirements to receive your degree.  These documents must also be accompanied by their translation into English if they appear in any other language.

  • three letters of recommendation, preferably from professors and/or other school officials who can attest to your scholastic abilities.  Letters from colleagues who have worked with you on a professional basis are also acceptable.

  • a sample of the applicant's writing in Spanish (may be of an analytical or creative nature) either written for a class or developed independently.  The writing sample should be a minimum of six pages in length.

  • a 10-minute audio recording in Spanish made by the candidate on a standard size cassette, which includes:
    • 1) a five minute reading of a literary text and
    • 2) a five minute auto-biography outlining your goals and objectives for studying in our program.
