Linking Leaders-The workshop will be held in Dallas on November 3-5 and is organized under a grant from NASA to NASSMC. 3. Alternative Licensure (SB 581). The status of the development of alternative licensure was discussed. Issues identified were: the relationship of the degree to the teaching field; content knowledge; changes in the state exam; the pattern of losing teachers once they receive alternative licensure; and the use of coursework versus demonstrated competency. Input on licensure should be provided to Marilyn Scargill (mscargall@sde.state.nm.us) by the middle of November. 4. Update of Professional Development (SB 110)- The Task Force has been working to develop a framework for the districts would use to apply for professional development funds. There are $6.5 million in state funds. There is concern that these funds are not categorical and may have been allocated to salaries or other areas. The intention is that for 2000-2001, the SDE will approve a specific PD plan and budget. Ideally the plan should flow from the district EPSS. Districts will need immediate technical assistance on planning and the resources available. On November 16 a draft of the framework will go to the LESC. The final document will go to the districts in January with plans being due in March. 5. New Project Reports a.
