Teaching Philosophy

My objective as a teacher of developmental writing is to create an environment in which students learn how to communicate effectively.  Students will learn how to communicate well through their writing as they:

  • learn to think critically
  • learn to function effectively in an information economy
  • develop problem-solving strategies

My job as an instructor is to clearly communicate course goals and objectives to each student; nothing should be a mystery.

As a facilitator of student learning, my job is to provide opportunities for students to succeed. I do this by:

  • encouraging student/teacher and student/student interaction
  • providing rich rapid feedback to students
  • developing assignments that require critical thinking
  • providing materials to aid the students with their assignments
  • utilizing technology as it enhances the learning experience
  • providing assessment tools that can be used by both student and instructor
