About Us
The original chapter was started in 1968 and flourished until 1985. Our colonization process started in the fall of 2003, with seven members. Since that time we have grown to 35. We were installed as a chapter in the Spring of 2008 a moment that many worked hard for. Since then we have moved on campus into the Greek Complex. We have been excelling as a chapter in this last year, and arre looking for young leaders who are willing to live up and work for the ideals of Sigma Chi. Sigma Chi is a great Fraternity and we are looking for members who will resemble that. •2nd highest GPA of all fraternities
•Finished 1st in two sorority philanthropy events and 2nd in two separate events
•Named “Most Improved Chapter” the past two years
Sigma Chi has supported the Children’s Miracle Network and the Huntsman Cancer Institute through the dedicated efforts of our philanthropic services. Sigma Chi’s signature philanthropy is Derby Days, a week-long festivity featuring daily events and fundraising initiatives. Sigma Chi at NMSU was recognized at the 2011 Greek Awards by receiving awards each for philanthropy work and community service.
FriendshipThe object of a college education is not to make us finished scholars, nor to complete our education. Education is a life-long process. The purpose of a college education is to awaken the importance of developing the mind?to create an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. One of the ways this is accomplished is through interaction with professors and fellow students. As a result of this interaction, new friendships are developed, which in turn promote the sharing of new ideas and concepts. Friendships are thus an important aspect of the college experience. Joining a fraternity can ease this transition by enhancing the opportunity for those friendships to develop and grow. Membership in a fraternity is not based on the possession of a particular athletic, academic or musical skill. It is based on friendship. Since the first fraternity was established in 1776, friendship was, and still is, the foundation of the fraternity experience.
Brotherhood
The primary purpose of Sigma Chi is to promote friendship, justice and learning. Sigma Chi aspires to develop brotherhood. A deeper and more enduring type of friendship among its members. Brotherhood brings together individuals from diverse backgrounds to assist each other in the attainment of high-minded goals. Develops a life-long commitment and creates friendships that will stand the postgraduation tests of time and distance.
