Research Activities

 Research Interests

Applied mathematics - using partial differential equations (PDEs) and ordinary differential equations (ODEs) including fluid dynamics and computational methods to study biological/medical problems - Mathematical biology
Biostatistics - using stochastic processes to model genetic and evolution problems and using computational statistics to analyze biological data and developing statistic methods for inverse problems in mathematical biology

 Current Research Projects and Grants

  1. Collective dynamics of solid tumor and its microenvironment - U54 FHCRC-NMSU partnership, leader at NMSU (Eric Holland, leader at Fred Hutchinson, Seattle):  $200,000.00 (direct cost), NIH research award, 09/01/2016-08/31/2018.
  2. Study of stem cell biology: collaborating with Ting Xie at Stowers Institute for Medical Research and Angelique Bordey at Yale University and Philip Maini in the Centre for Mathematical Biology at the  University of Oxford, UK.
  3. Study of brain tumor growth with therapies: collaborating with E. Antonio Chiocca in Harvard Medical School and Jin Wang at UTC. A part of this project is funded by NSF (US) with award $130,000.00 from 2013 to 2015 with extension to 2017 as "Collaborative Research: New Formulation and Algorithms for Fluid-Structure Interaction with Application to Tumor Growth"(DMS-1216907 & 1446139), where I am the PI.
  4. Study of disease ecology: collaborating with Jingan Cui in the College of Science at Beijing University of
Architecture and Civil Engineering. A part of this project is funded by NNSFC (China) with award
Chinese Yuan grant from 2014 to 2017 as "Research of New Emerging Infectious Disease Models with
Media Coverage and Medical Constraints"(NNSF-11371048), where I am a co-PI.
